I noticed the old torrents for vanilla wow (the mac client) seem to have zero seeds, and the HTTP links (mega etc) are a completely broken client that crashes when you run it.
I've packaged a .zip with the clean enUS client that I made myself from the original disk images and patch files. It's 100% fresh, no WDB/WTF/Addons/etc.

Virtual Classic?
Likely, classic running on modern metal based client. Which will probably drive some on old machines crazy since they think they're gonna be able to run it but won't. I doubt they'll use 1.x engine though. It doesn't run for crap on modern OSes (even on windows sides it's not without issues). It has full of hacks and exploits cause it's over a decade out of date with anti hack an server tech etc etc.
They'll probably design a way for classic to run on CURRENT engine/client
Remember when they announced it they used very key phrasing 'classic experience'
not 'classic'. 'classic experience'
I'm sure they'll emulate it as close as possible but expect it to be a virtual classic yes.

Just hope they bring back classic AV. Mac content: at least with eGPU we should be able to max the eye candy at last. /rolls eyes
OMG AV for hours on end again?!?!?!? Those were the days...
So here we already have an issue facing purists who want absolutely no changes included into Classic. Now those people will likely argue, 'LUL who plays on a Mac, Windows 7 master race'. And they'll likely insert slippery slopes and straw-mans against pragmatic QoL system improvements to the game:

- Utilization of Metal 2.0
-Exploit fixes
-Transition to 64bit
-Usage of the newer .CASC data format
-Backporting of the current version of Warden (for anticheat detection, can't have Honorbuddy be defeated in retail only for them, or others, find another home in Classic)
-And any other code improvements that Blizzard is going to include for BfA
Not to mention the countless additions to the system and interface menus that as I can remember didn't exist back then. Namely colorblind support. So as it stands, these key points will logically need to be addressed and will likely be included regardless. So that Blizzard can release a game to a wider audience and without drawing ire from players and media for lack of parity between retail and Classic.

The real question is if there will be support for today's resolutions and graphics (not talking updated models). And will there be incentives to play Classic and BfA/Retail? Meaning collection of transmog items that only existed during vanilla will allow them to be used for retail. Although if that were the case I wouldn't want them to allow Naxx40 gear to be part of the system, just to keep exclusivity for players who did it while current.

They can use 8.0 client and old interface. They simply just need to use a new client/server tech, anti cheat, and engine only. They can put any data they want for game to load. Classic would likely use a diff data set. They can also place arbritary restrictions too such as even though it's a modern client they can still have graphics presets that max view distance at whatever it was for classic, etc.
But as others point out. They cannot use an old client for a modern classic. It doesn't for crap for some and doesn't work at all for others. They'd have to use modern client. Of course that'll probably make some others mad too when they login to play classic then realize they can't if their GPU doesn't support metal. They'll go 'wtf? classic didn't require metal'..but I think that's just what'll end up happening and can't be avoided. Apples support policy with latest OS being only one that gets ANY support is clear, which forces developers to do same thing.
